This site is dedicated to Bailey, an Irish Wolfhound cross Retriever male dog. I got him from a rescue centre on 27 July 08.
He wasn’t home long before I noticed that there was something wrong with his eyesight. At first I thought it was just him not being in full control of his legs, at 7 months he’s still quite floppy and does trip himself up or try and bounce around but often flops on the floor.
A quick trip to the vets confirmed my fears — congenital cataracts. He’s totally blind in his left eye and almost blind in his right. I was obviously devastated as he’s such a beautiful dog,I think it upset me more than it bothers him!! He’s been blind since birth so has learnt to adapt really well.
When I got home I searched on the internet about what to do with him and came across quite a lot of information but quickly worried about where to start, I didn’t want to overload him.
So here’s his story and the problems I’ve faced and overcome.
We will try and update it regularly and we both hope it’ll maybe ease the way for you.
